10th Gen Civic Clutch Master Cylinder Upgrade Install Guide

This guide will cover all steps to install this product on your vehicle and hopefully answer any questions you may have related to it. What’s Included:

  • Clutch master cylinder
  • Braided clutch line
  • (2) Rubber grommets

Required Tools:

  • Line clamp
  • 10mm line wrench
  • 17mm wrench
  • Ratchet
  • 12mm socket
  • Flat head screwdriver

Installation Steps:

  1. Disconnect the battery and remove it from the car.
  2. Install a line clamp on the rubber hose going from the brake/clutch fluid reservoir to the clutch master cylinder to limit how much fluid gets lost.
  3. Using a 10mm line wrench disconnect the factory clutch line at the slave cylinder and let it drain into a catch pan.
  4. Remove the retainer clips that hold the factory rubber line to the transmission and frame rail using a flat head screwdriver.
  5. Using a 10mm line wrench and 17mm wrench disconnect the factory clutch line from the master cylinder.
  6. From the factory clutch line from the plastic clip on the frame rail underneath the battery tray. From this point you should be able to remove the entire factory clutch line from the vehicle.
  7. Next the factory master cylinder need to be removed, Under the dash on the inside of the car the master cylinder must be disconnected from the clutch pedal. Remove the cotter pin and the clevis pin to disconnect it.
  8. After the clevis is disconnected from the pedal the master cylinder can be unbolted from the firewall by removing the two 12mm nuts with a ratchet and socket.
  9. Finally to remove the master cylinder from the vehicle disconnect the rubber feed line from the fluid reservoir to the master cylinder and remove the master cylinder from the vehicle. Be careful to wipe up and brake fluid that spills.
  10. Before the new master cylilnder can be installed the clevis must be transferred from the factory master cylinder. This is done by holding onto the clevis and loosening the jam nut with a 10mm line wrench. Be sure to measure the distance from the clevis pin hole to the mounting face of the master cylinder and set it to that same distance on the new master cylinder.
  11. Install the new master cylinder and secure it to the firewall with the 12mm nuts. 
  12. Install the factory rubber feed line from the fluid reservoir to the barb on the new master cylinder.
  13. Install the 90° end of the braided clutch line into the master cylinder and tighten it with a 10mm line wrench and 17mm wrench. Route it as shown.
  14. Clip the braided line into the plastic clip on the frame rail that held the factory line.
  15. Keep the braided line routed along the frame rail, install one of the supplied rubber grommets into the factory bracket on the frame rail that held the connection to the factory rubber line and route the braided line through it.
  16. Install the other supplier rubber grommet in the other bracket on the transmission that held the connection to the factory rubber line, route the braided line through it and install the straight end of the braided line into the slave cylinder with a 10mm line wrench and 17mm wrench.
  17. Top off the brake fluid reservoir and bleed all air from the clutch hydraulic system. Check for leaks.
  18. Reinstall the battery and verify the clutch has correct operation and cruise control works. If the clutch is not fully disengaging or cruis control does not work then the pedal must be adjusted with the pedal stop at the top of the pedal and changing the length of the pushrod and clevis.
